Above and Beyond!
The High Plains Museum is pleased to announce a special presentation by Terry Leonhart, Quality Assurance Dimensional Inspection Technician at Sierra Nevada Corporation, Space Systems Group, in Louisville, Colorado, on Saturday April 13th at 10:30 AM. Mr. Leonhart, a Goodland native, will discuss how he got into the “space business” and the future of space flight with the Sierra Nevada Corporation. Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is one of America’s fastest growing private companies based on its significant expansion and reputation for rapid, innovative, and agile technology solutions in electronics, aerospace, avionics, space, propulsion, micro-satellite, aircraft, communications systems and solar energy. Under the leadership of CEO Fatih Ozmen and President Eren Ozmen, SNC employs over 2,500 people in 30 locations in 16 states. SNC’s six unique business areas are dedicated to providing leading-edge solutions to SNC’s dynamic customer base. You can find out more by visiting sncorp.com
Come for Terry’s presentation, and stay for the startling images in the exhibit Earth From Space —from the swirling arms of a massive hurricane and the grid-like pattern of Kansas farmland to the triangular shadows cast by the Great Pyramids and the sinuous channels entering the Arctic Ocean. Earth From Space illustrates how satellite imagery is gathered and used to expand mankind’s understanding of life on Earth. It also explores the remote-sensing technology used to gather the images and describes the individual satellites whose images are on display. Earth From Space is on display through July.
From 1:00 to 5:00 PM on April 13th build space ships using recycled materials at the High Plains Museum using the SNC’s Dream Chaser® as inspiration. Bring your own recyclables to build, too! All ages welcome to build and create! See you Saturday for an amazing talk from a Goodland native and building space ships!
