ORDINANCE NO. 1756

AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE 2020 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE FOR THE CITY CODE OF THE CITY OF GOODLAND, KANSAS.

WHEREAS, the City of Goodland Construction Board has recommended to approve adopting and amending the 2020 National Electrical Code book to update the City’s current code which is the older version of the standard code known as the National Electrical Code, 2002 Edition.

            WHEREAS, the Governing Body finds it is in the best interest of the City to adopt the 2020 National Electrical Code Book for the City of Goodland

            NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF GOODLAND, KANSAS:  

            SECTION 1. REPEAL AND REPLACE. Sec. 4-301 of the Goodland Municipal Code is hereby repealed and replaced with a new Section 4-301 which shall read as follows:

Sec. 4-301. – Adoption of electrical code by reference.

That a certain document, three (3) copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Goodland being marked and designated as the National Electrical Code, 2020 edition and is hereby adopted as the Electrical Code of the City of Goodland in the State of Kansas regulating and governing the design, construction, quality of materials, erection, installation, alteration, repair, location, relocation, replacement, addition to, use or maintenance of electrical systems as herein provided; providing for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; and each and all of the regulations, provisions, penalties, conditions and terms of said Electrical Code on file in the office of the City of Goodland are hereby referred to, adopted, and made a part hereof, as if fully set out in this legislation, with the additions, insertions, deletions and changes, if any, prescribed in Section 2.

            SECTION 2. REPEAL AND REPLACE. Sec. 4-304 of the Goodland Municipal Code is hereby repealed and replaced with a new Section 4-304 which shall read as follows:

Sec. 4-304. – Amendments.

The following sections of the National Electrical Code, 2020 edition, adopted by reference in Section 4-301 are hereby amended or deleted as follows:

Article 210.12 Arc-Fault Circuit- Interrupter Protection, Dwelling Units: (A) 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20- ampere branch circuits supplying outlets or devices installed in dwelling unit kitchens, family rooms, dining rooms, living rooms, parlors, libraries, dens, bedrooms, sunrooms, recreation rooms, closets, hallways, laundry areas, or similar rooms or areas shall be protected by any of the means described in 210.12(A) (1) through (6):  delete all other units and only keep bedrooms in this section.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in force and take effect after its publication in the Goodland Star News.
