City of Goodland Welcomes New City Manager
On September 20, 2021 the Goodland City Commission voted 4-0 to approve the contract for the future City Manager, Kent Brown. Kent will start work on October 25, 2021.
Kent has had significant experience leading similar-sized communities in both Kansas and Colorado. He has served as Administrator/City Manager at Clearwater, Kansas; Milliken, Colorado; and most recently in Georgetown, Colorado. He had also served as the City Clerk in the City of Ulysses.
Some of the experience that made him such an attractive candidate, includes significant infrastructure and economic development activities and experience. Brown was heavily involved in a development in Georgetown that includes a hotel, brewery pub, townhomes, and apartments. He completed significantimprovements to water and wastewater treatment plants, fulfilling capacity and environmental requirements in both Milliken and Georgetown. Kent also has significant experience in the expansion of water rights, lines, and storage towers in his previous communities. He worked a specific ballot issue in Georgetown for a ½ cent sales tax increase for park maintenance and improvements and was involved in the completion of an additional ½ mile of the Milliken Johnstown Trail. While in Clearwater, Kent developed a city industrial/business park, funded and built a certified emergency storm shelter, and constructed a new aquatic facility with established funding agreements. He maintained those operations for over a decade. Kent was also involved in numerous community projects through the local Chamber of Commerce and the Clearwater Community Foundation.
