The Smithsonian is Coming!
The High Plains Museum will host the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibition, “The Way We Worked,” sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council, December 15th, 2012 through January 27th, 2013.
“The Way We Worked” explores the stories of America’s workers and invites us to consider how the workplace and workforce have changed over time. Through photographs from the National Archives, audio and video clips, and hands-on components, Kansans will discover how, together, our work makes America.
The Smithsonian Exhibit is accompanied by several companion exhibits telling Sherman County work stories at the High Plains Museum, Carnegie Arts Center, the Goodland Public Library, and the Sherman County Historical Society’s Ennis-Handy House.
Programming and activities for all ages kick off December 15th with Heritage Arts Demonstrations at the Carnegie Arts Center all day from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Stop in at the Goodland Public Library and the Sherman County Historical Society’s Ennis Handy House for more local work stories. View the Smithsonian Exhibit at the High Plains Museum from 9:00am-5:00pm, and make sure to attend the special reception for the exhibit with guest Virgil Dean, Kansas Humanities Council Scholar and esteemed historian, lecture on work at the High Plains Museum from 7:00-10:00pm.
